that might work through a medium such as air or water but not in a vacuum

I think a shockwave would cause even more destruction in space because of the vacuum, less to slow it down. I know at about 3 feet I can thump a ping pong ball and by the time it reaches you there will be enough momentum/force for it to crush your skull. Now if we're talking about just a "shock", like from a bit of electricity, I dont see that doing much in the vacuum of space no.
