Fleet Saving For Beginners

FS 101 Strategic Fleet Saving

Fleet Saving (FS) is primarily when you send your fleet (and resources) on a mission to keep it safe while you are offline, though there is a secondary use for it which will be explained later.

Fleets can only be hit when they are in orbit; fleets in transit cannot be hit until they arrive back in orbit. Therefore, when you are logging off you can keep your fleet safe from attack by sending it on a mission for the duration you will be away.

Ideally, FS missions should generally be sent FROM a moon and TO a moon. This is because there is a building called a Sensor Phalanx which can be built on moons. The Phalanx (or lanx) allows players to see planet to planet movements, giving them the fleet composition and the return times. Moons cannot be lanxed. Moons can be destroyed by Death Stars (RIPs) however, and if all the moons involved in a mission are destroyed then it becomes lanxable.

Ideally, the mission duration should be selected so that you are able to log on BEFORE it arrives back. There are three ways of adjusting the mission duration

1. After selecting the ships on Fleet page 1 and clicking continue, Fleet page 2 gives you the option of adjusting the speed of the fleet by 10 percentile increments.

2. Ship selection. Different ships have different speeds. If you want to FS your cargos but cannot seem to adjust the duration to what you want, then including a recycler for example may help, since they travel at a slower speed (the speed of a selected fleet is always the speed of the slowest ship)

3. Target location. The further you send the fleet the longer it takes.

Any kind of mission can be used as a FS mission.

TRANSPORT is not generally a good option because it will leave your resources at the target location instead of keeping them with the fleet.

DEPLOY can be a good option if want your fleet to end up at the selected location. Deploy missions can only be done to your own planets and moons.

RECYCLE is a little weak as a FS option unless you are sending from a very big moon, as there will be no moon at the recycle end of the mission. However, it can be very useful in getting an appropriate duration as it can be done to any planet, friend or foe. All ship types can accompany a recycle mission as long as there is at least one recycler included.

ATTACK against an active target is a very bad FS option. Against an (i) or (iI) target it is less risky but there is still a chance that the player could reactivate.

ACS DEFEND is a good option. You can always ACS Defend your own planets and moons. To ACS Defend any other planet or moon there needs to be an ACS Depot on the target planet or moon. Keep the stay time at 0, because otherwise ACS Defending fleets can be attacked during their stay at the target.

FS 102 Tactical Fleet Saving

FS can also be used for two other purposes.

First, the ranking updates only once an hour. Only ships in orbit are counted in ranking. So, doing a mini-FS at update time will keep your fleet off ranking. This is useful if you do not want people to know how big a fleet you have.

Second, it can keep your fleet hidden from spying eyes. This is especially useful if you are planning a ninja.
