If you look in the Empire Menu on the left hand of your screen you will see a Technologies category. This tells you all the prerequisites for all the various ships, techs, defenses etc. Under Colony Ship you will see that you need Ship Yard (Level 4) and
Impulse Engine (Level 3). These two things themselves have prerequisites which you can find on the same page. When you have the required techs and buildings you can build a colony ship and send it to any empty slot. I recommend slot 14

Was having some issues till I found this ..Well done. Would be nice to have a players guide though so new players don't have to hunt the forums for info....
